Cycling Etiquette for GK Sessions.

Most of us love a good group ride.
But often we don't know exactly how to tackle the dynamic's of a group ride and the etiquette involved.
Below are a few group ride "etiquettes" that will allow you to enjoy your ride while
being safe and ensuring the safety of your fellow riders.

After all we are here for a good time :)

1)Safe Bike: Make sure your bike is in good working order. (Tires are good and your bike is mechanically safe to ride)

2)The Half Wheeling Rider: The right way to ride in a double paceline is handlebar-to-handlebar, not half a wheel ahead of the rider next to you.

Half wheeling makes the pace slowly creep up and up until it ends in a race and everybody getting dropped.

3)Red Lights: Just stop for them, it will keep you safe and keep you out of trouble, plus limit traffic aggression.

4)Pointing Out Debris: It's the lead rider or riders responsibility to point out any hazards in the road that could potentially cause an accident. Make sure you help the riders behind you by signalling with your hands. More on Hand Signals here: https://blog.mapmyrun.com/10-cycling-hand-signals-need-know/

5) Time Trials: If you are riding out to an area to do particular Time Trial efforts, this is where you are NOT allowed to draft and should leave at least a 12m gap between riders.(12m is the draft distance for WTC races) These efforts are based on your best effort, not how well you can draft. (In particular Thursday morning intervals over the summer months)

Save the drafting for the ride out and back.

Hope this helps

Cheers
Guy
